as most of you know, i live in quebec (90% french) and i was at the convenience store a moment ago.. there was a lady from ontario in her 50's who stopped at the conveniece store to ask the clerc for directions in english.
the girl at the cash tried her best to speak english and give her the right directions.
then a client came in the convenience store and saw the lady talking in english.
My next door neighbors are from Portugal and have lived here for 40+ years. Aside from Hi & Bye they don't speak any English to us...when they have tried to speak to us....ARrrggh! I almost have to break out in interpretive dance to get them to understand.
On the other hand, we have a bunch of Cambodians down the road who speak better English than a lot of people who have been born in the USA.

based on some of the recent threads, it seems that the latest wt study article has created quite a stir within the congs.
for those of you that are still attending meetings and in active association with the cong, i am curious as to what the private response of individuals has been like.
i'm not talking about the usual, "wasn't that a great study?
I just wonder how my MIL is justifying paying for 7 years of my SIL's college here and abroad....
My MIL lives a very frugal lifestyle and has taken out loans because of paying for SIL to go private EXPENSIVE colleges.
Think of all the money she could have sent to the society for all their wonderful work in the world....BLECK!

everything you see has some part of the wts involved with it, from the calendar on the fridge to the pictures on the walls, you can't get away from it.

My MIL has the daily text right on the kitchen table and then the bookshelves in the LR are lined with the whole WTS collection....and the record player...yes I said record player has the lovely KH Melody Records.....
I think you should go right down to Spencer Gifts and get some naughty dice and marijauna smelling incense.....it will keep their demons from entrapping you at a weak moment.
Don't forget to turn in you time...I'm sure you can count your hours for all the time you are here with us. You can tell your brother you work very hard in the ministry with people whose minds are closed and their hearts are hardened against JW's.

this is what i am worried will be going through my mind in less then a month.
i have always wanted a big christmas tree but since i was a full fledged jw till 5 yrs ago i never had one.
i just last year was able to get a small table top tree for christmas.
What can they say...the tree speaks for itself.
You probably woulnd't have to say a thing....LOL!
When my darling husbands mother who is a mega Witness showed up and we had a Christmas Tree....she didn't say a thing. She didn't even acknowledge it.
The second year, she said something to the effect of pretty tree.

Your comment made me laugh at loud...my husband has a CDL license and they do a very thorough physical exam..
The last doctor who did it was a very big African American ex college basketball player....I swear my poor husband didn't walk right for a couple days! His hands were about the same size as a basketball!
It made me feel like there is justice in the world for all the things that doctors think up to do with women and our bodies when we are pregnant!

details are sketchy yet, but my brother tim, whom many of you portlanders have now met, had a fire in his apartment this morning.
the damage isn't total, but its devastating.
he did not have rental insurance, and the fire marshall says the cause is an extension cord he had daisy-chained into a surge protector.
I used to volunteer for the Red Cross and they would often help people out by giving them food, clothing, housing vouchers, and even money to get going again. Have they been in contact? He might need to call them if they haven't.
I am sorry for your brother - a fire is absolutely devestating. I'm glad he is okay.
You're a good sister for going to help him.

When I had my 2nd son I basically had the whole state of Rhode Island in my cookie jar.
I would say that in my humble opinion...women are not as gentle as men.
I would rather have a man because some of the women are just jerks - especially if they have had a baby...They don't mind at all being rough and aren't as sympathetic listening to issues - especially if they've never had any medical issues.
The best doctor I ever had was an OB/GYN who's wife had the pregnancy from hell...he treated all of his patients like queens. And he always talked to both me and my husband the same...no creepiness at all.

recently i've been very close with a lady and we are hitting it off good.

I personally like to be pampered....so a gift certificate for a massage, manicure or pedicure...
Or a gift basket full of yummy smelling lotions, soaps, bubble baths...is also nice.
A necklace is a nice gift too...
